Canada This Way

Our Story

A fake job ad, a missed phone call and $40 got us enlightenment. We landed in Canada a year later. It was purely an accident how we were set on this trail of immigrating to Canada and probably the best accident we could have wished for. This is the story of how we found our way to the holy land of apologies and maple syrup.

It was Saturday afternoon and we were chilling at home when the phone must have let out a lazy groan because I swear I did not hear it ring. I called the number back and it was an agency where I had applied for a job a few days back. They had guaranteed with utmost conviction on their ad that they can get me a job in Australia, Canada or Hong Kong. And the naïve child in me fell for the false promises of a fake job ad. They asked if I could come and meet them in a couple of hours and I agreed. When we arrived, it turned out to be an immigration consulting agency. 45 minutes and a coffee later, we found the idea of immigration quite appealing. Did I mention they charged $40 for an evaluation of our eligibility to immigrate? An evaluation that you can do for yourself for free on the Canada.ca website. More on that later…

We came back and dwelled on the idea, talked to a few people, and started our research. We found the process to be pretty straightforward so we went ahead and applied on our own to migrate here. We landed in August 2016 and have loved every bit of our experience here. With this blog, we’d like to share our story and real life experiences, hoping that we become the cause of your accident and change your life for the better.

A word of caution. We are bloggers, thinkers, graphic designers, travel enthusiasts…anything but immigration consultants. All our opinions are our own and the only intent is to share our knowledge and experiences to make it a smooth sailing for you.

See you on the other side!

I am a gastronome, an avid reader, and a perfectionist…in that order. A Human Resources Generalist (read multi-talented!) by profession, I have worked in the areas of recruitment, talent management and business partnering for almost a decade. I also volunteer with ACCES Employment mentoring new immigrants in the field of HR and I love spending my weekends curled up on the couch, day-dreaming with a hot cup of cocoa.

I am a travel freak, an infra geek and currently going through an amazing cocktail whipping streak. A marketing whiz by profession, I love to create content that is engaging and exciting. I also love to drag my wife along with me to the great big outdoors, exploring the amazing sights the world has got to offer. She’d rather spend her weekends curled up on the couch but needless to say, I try and disrupt that as much as I can.
